ESP is a methodology for organising self build at volume scale, combining pattern book housing with urban design code. The ESP-sim project, funded by UrbanBuzz, developed the first simulations of the ESP methodology using a virtual environment developed by Slider Studio with support from University of East London. The project also funded knowledge transfer activities between a range of professionals and academics, all of whom have helped develop the ESP process. These activities included seminars, workshops and the RIBA supported YouCanPlan Pattern Books competition. You can read more about ESP at esp-sim.org. UrbanBuzz: Building Sustainable Communities was a HEIF funded 2 year programme that aimed to develop new ways of delivering genuinely sustainable forms of development and community in London and the wider Southeast region.
