Courtyard House

posted under Projects

We have recently designed a 3 bedroom house for a private client in Tallinn Estonia. The form of the house maximises the opportunity afforded by a tight orchard site in and was evolved from statutory planning constraints, proximity of neighbouring dwellings and the results of computational light studies. Throughout the design process we tested different window sizes and configurations, taking on board the available supply chain options for this area. The final design maximizes the solar energy gain and incorporates a ground source heat pump integrated with ventilation aggregate. Cladding is designed in untreated Russian Larch, fixed vertically in staggered horizontal bands, with specification of thicker more robust boards at the lowest levels which are prone to snow build up. You can see more of this house in 3D in our web3D demo.
