EBN finalists presenting in Lille

Michael Kohn, selected from among 25 of the 2010 European EBN Smart Entrepreneurship Competition finalists, will present Slider´s case in Lille International Knowledge Exchange Festival on September 7th, 2010. The festival brings together decision makers, professionals, experts, policy makers and entrepreneurs to share smart ideas and interact with the audience in an open discussion session.

Slider Studio has been short listed as a finalist in the Smart Entrepreneurship Competition 2010, organised by the European Business Innovation Centre Network. We are competing in the “Socially Responsible Models” category, and will be showcasing our range of democratic design tools at the 19th EBN annual congress in Burgos on July 1st and 2nd, 2010.

The congress addresses the requisite entrepreneurial skills in order to support innovation, growth and navigate across challenging markets. Michael Kohn will attend to present Slider’s case, demonstrating projects from YouCanPlan and StickyWorld in a double act with Knowledge Dock, the UEL-based Business Innovation Centre that proposed us for this competition.

Paid Internship

Slider Studio is building a team of proactive graduates to support the use of StickyWorld as an exhibition platform. This is a unique opportunity to get involved with a multi-disciplinary architecture practice, to learn digital skills from experts, to improve your CV experience and build industry contacts

Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree between March 2008 and March 2010.

Cafe Online

Collaboration Cafe Online exhibition rooms have opened to public. The exhibition rooms feature recent work in form of drawings, photos and 3D models from several architectural practices including Scott Brownrigg, Edward Cullinan Architects, HTA Architects, Make Architects, and Slider Studio. The Cafe will be open throughout March and April, and will be regularly updated. Visitors are invited to leave their thoughts and comments in the exhibition rooms.

Collaboration Cafe launch

Launch of Collaboration Café, Building Centre, Store Street, London, 4 March, 6-9pm.

Open for business throughout March, the Collaboration Cafe forms the final component of research and development led by Slider Studio and supported by Edward Cullinan Architects, HTA, Make, Scott Brownrigg and University of East London.

Michael Kohn of Slider Studio will present a brief overview of the StickyWorld Collaborative Research and Development project and introduce the final stage of the research taking place throughout March, both in the café and online. The 18 month development of StickyWorld, a project review and exhibition platform for creative business and education, has been part funded by the Technology Strategy Board. This final month of the project opens up the collaboration between the six different organisations to invite wider engagement of the public and visitors to the Building Centre.

Patient Dignity

January 22nd, 2010

Slider Studio is working on designs to improve washrooms and toilets in existing hospitals in order to improve patient dignity and support productivity in wards. Working in collaboration with Azhar Architecture and manufacturer Grant Westfield our team has visited five different hospitals and studied typical design and operational problems in these areas. We have talked to patients and nurses about possible improvements, and will apply user-centred and democratic design thinking to devise appropriate environments fit for all users.

Presentation at RIBA

Renee Puusepp presents the thinking and technology behind the award winning entry for the Nordhavnen harbour area competition at the London Design computing Community event (see more on www.design-computing.com). The presentation covers a brief introduction to the sitecapacity engine, explains how it was modified to meet the project-specific brief and helped the team to control the design process from initial ideas to submission.

YouCanPlan featured

Be2camp Web 2.0 showcase currently features our YouCanPlan methodology and software. YouCanPlan was originally funded by the UrbanBuzz programme and was subsequently developed further to meet the requirements of Birmingham City Council for public consultation in Lozells.

Generative design lecture

Practice director Renee Puusepp gives a lecture on generative design and situated systems at School of Architecture and Visual Arts in University of East London. He will present some of his research on agent-based systems for architecture and introduce the latest of Slider’s work. The lecture is open for everyone
