Continuing our research into pattern books and design codes, we prepared an entry for the RIBA competition for a new house type for developer Urban Splash in Stockton on Tees. Our proposal for “Make-Me Townhouse” sits within a rich and varied masterplan, developed collaboratively with competing practice Mae architects. A customisable house design is developed from a basic pattern book, offering flexible internal layouts across three floors plus a ‘convertible roof terrace’. At the rear, a combination of extension options exploiting permitted development rights allows for incremental growth of the property to suit changing needs over time.
