Europan 9

Our scheme for Fairfields sets an alternative vision for development at the western edge of Milton Keynes. we proposed a new housing scheme set around an innovative sustainable personal transport network – the New Redway – which supports electric transportation including golf buggies share pools which offer local residents free local trips to the shops or supermarket.

The new housing development is organised by a simple design code which positions the taller properties towards the main roads and completes perimeter blocks with two and three storey properties. In the centre, courtyard housing increases site density and provides supervision of carparking courts. The housing typologies are familiar in form, but each building is completed with charismatic roof forms and rhythmic elevations. The roof forms are individual to the orientation of each building, twisting and flexing from the orthogonal to form a south facing plane sufficient in size to mount solar renewables.
